Kayla is an award-winning composer and arranger with exceptional understanding of music, atmosphere and how to use sound to tell story.
As one of two recipients selected from across Australia for the 2025 Sydney Philharmonia Choir’s Emerging Composer’s Award, Kayla has had her works performed in the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, and venues across Melbourne and Adelaide. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Classical Composition from the Elder Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide and studied under Dr Carl Crossin OAM and Dr Anne Cawrse. With a keen understanding of the nuances of different genres, Kayla can craft a piece for any style of ensemble ranging from beginner to professional. She has been commissioned to write for the Adelaide Elder Conservatorium Chorale, members of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and Melbourne-based Yarra Voices, to name a few. Her jazz arrangements have won places with special note at Generations In Jazz and she has been the mastermind behind many an end-of-year school finale showcasing entire music departments.
As a songwriter and poet too, Kayla has a nimble mastery of the English language and a gift in interpreting and communicating riddles through music. In creating story through sound, she carries a passion for using music to facilitate the emotion and appropriate atmosphere for a work. Kayla delights to help others complete their projects and be a sounding board for creative undertakings, as well as using her talents to create meaningful pieces for others.
The Sydney Arts Guide said of the piece featured below piece:
“This Australian-born composer is a creative force to look out for…”
“…a lyrical feast of original poetry set to inimitable free modern expressiveness.”

A Prayer of Jesus (2025)
Called to a life of wonder
Called to a life of aim
My life is not my own
My life is for his fame,
for his name.
Called as a child of wonder
for a life lived in the light,
to shine in a world of darkness
and give the blind one sight,
colours bright.
“Is this life a gift for thee
from a father who’d send his son?
Why would a loving father
let such pain upon someone?”
For the sake of the one
who would dare to wonder
at the light sent to guide
the way home.
Wrestle with storm and thunder
for the heart that wants the sun,
tearing the veil asunder.
Not mine, but your will be done.
This is here a Christmas mystery:
that my father would send me hence.
Let my life be a gift to thee,
tied with red.
For I come to free the dreamers
to rise
and to cause the people
to lift up their eyes!
A call to a life of wonder. A call!
It’s all for the love of a father.
I trust the heart of my father.
I know I’m loved by my father.
Be it unto me!
It’s worth the aching.
Yes, the time of wonder
now awaking.
I am a gift to the one who would
dare to wonder,
sent by the one who’s the
radiant and great reward:
the Father of Christmas,
the only giver of good gifts.
Let my life prove it –
a life that bring wonderers home.
Child of wonder,
behold all the joys set before you.

Sydney Opera House Concert Hall
